Patient happiness initiative from the UAE Red Crescent Authority

UHS doctors succeeded in saving the life of a 90-year-old Emirati patient by performing a delicate aortic surgery

Professor Tariq Al Mahdi, head of the Surgery Department at the University Hospital Sharjah, said: “The emergency department at the hospital received a 90-year-old patient in a critical condition at 11 pm. He collapsed after low blood circulation and was suffering from severe pain in the abdomen and back.

“After clinical examinations, Dr Ahmed El Fassi, consultant vascular surgeon, was summoned, as it was found that there was a case of aortic rupture, which is one of the most critical and difficult cases,” he said.

University Hospital of Sharjah doctors succeeded in saving the life of an eighty-year-old patient by performing rare and delicate artery surgery.
Where Dr. Sahir Arour, a consultant vascular surgeon at the University Hospital in Sharjah, said: “The emergency department at the University Hospital in Sharjah received an eighty-year-old male patient who was suffering from urinary bleeding as a result of stones. Upon examination, it was found that the patient was experiencing severe pains in the abdominal region. The aortic pulse was obvious. The patient was transferred to the Diagnostic Radiology Department and examined by ultrasound as well as a CT scan without giving dye injections as the patient was having kidney failure which contraindicate this diagnostic injection,” noting that the medical treating team succeeded in determining the dimensions of swelling in the wall of the artery as a result of weakness and calcification of its tissues. The dimensions ranged between 60 to 70 mm.

150 visits to the oncology clinic at the University Hospital Sharjah per month

Dr. Riyad Bin Dardaf, a consultant oncologist at the University Hospital Sharjah, confirmed that he receives 150 cases per month in the oncology clinic ranging from follow-up or new cases, advising men and women of the need to exercise regularly and reduce fast food and increase fiber, vegetables, and fruits, and quit smoking. In addition to the early detection of men and women, such as the PSA analysis in men starting from the age of fifty, and for women, a mammogram or the USS Breas image at an early age to detect tumors in the early stages.

For his part, Dr. Abdel Moneim Obaidin, consultant and head of the Medical Diagnostic Imaging Services Department, confirmed that we have an integrated center in which magnetic resonance imaging and CT scans are performed, in addition to conducting all kinds of radiology, including bone density, mammography, and ultrasound imaging.
