Position Summary To be responsible for all collection of venous blood, urine, or any body fluids from all patients as and when required by the clinicians with full knowledge of Laboratory Information System (LIS) in addition to optimal knowledge of names and lists of various laboratory tests name. To be responsible to follow hospital policy and procedure for disposable of sharps and other hazardous waste.  Any accidentals with sharp must be immediately reported to the Safety Officer and hospital quality department. To follow and comply with all policies and procedures written within the Department of Pathology Laboratory pertaining to their work areas. Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities. To be responsible for collection of venous blood from all patients as and when required by the clinicians Receive the request order and collect specimens from patients and on LIS. Creating test orders with the help of lab clinical pathologists for Walk-in out-patients. To label the collected specimens and ensure their dispatch to relevant laboratory sections as per P & P. To be aware of skin antisepsis, basic anatomy of skin and various types of anticoagulant used for different tests. To work strictly according to the duty rota laid down by the Lab Manager. To work strictly within the rules and regulations laid down by the Hospital Infection Control Committee, for dealing with Patients specially in the high risk area. To follow hospital policy procedure for disposable of sharps and other hazardous waste.  Any accidentals with sharp must be immediately reported to Safety office and hospital quality department. To work as Laboratory Technical Assistants as per the requirements of various laboratory sections. . To perform other duties in the laboratory that are requested within his/her specialty. Directions and instructions provided by the Senior phlebotomist.   Position Requirements/Qualifications      Phlebotomist Bsc, Laboratory Medical Sciences graduate or Nurse, preferably technologists. Position Summary   Responsible for performance of all laboratory-based tasks, which include patients sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing results in various patient specimens.  They also provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct and proper policies and procedures, lab health and safety guideline to achieve high quality results.   Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities.   Assist the Laboratory Director in the coordination of laboratory activities. Provide accurate, timely and cost-effective testing of patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in compliance and harmony with the quality management system. The Lab Technologist has no supervisory responsibility. LAB PROCEDURES: Performs a variety of technical laboratory procedures according to policies and procedures of the UHS and UHS Laboratory to obtain patient’s specimens and to ensure specimen quality used to aid in the diagnosis. Perform laboratory tests in various laboratory section like sample receiving, biochemistry, haematology, blood bank, microbiology & molecular. DOCUMENTATION: Has full knowledge in using LIS/HIS to be responsible for accurately completing records and reports and other statistical information for master files or databases. Follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen identification and reporting. COMMUNICATION/TEAMWORK: Maintains positive working relationship with the lab staff, medical staff and hospital personnel. Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members. Uses clear and concise verbal and written communication with staff and the public. Acts independently on accomplishing lab tasks and accepts responsibility of the adopted policy and procedures of the hospital and the laboratory. Shares call duty and works different shifts as required. QUALITY CONTROL/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Participates in IQC/EQC/QI for area of specialty and Lab indicators. Does not report patient results unless quality control data are within accepted parameters. Recognizes out of control values, takes corrective action, and notifies others of changes mainly seniors and/or laboratory director. SAFETY, TRAINING AND EDUCATION: Complies with laboratory safety procedures. Possesses adequate knowledge of instrumentation, theory, and application of new and existing tests. Completes education necessary to maintain MOH licensure or certification for the job annual renewal. PROBLEM SOLVING/CRITICAL THINKING: Assumes responsibility to resolve problems. Performs required maintenance procedures in laboratory instrumentation. Investigates and resolves technical problems i.e. troubleshooting, consults supervisor if resolution involves policy or procedure modification. Identifies real or potential situations or equipment failure, attempts to resolve within area of specialty or knowledge and refers complex issues to appropriate source. Work and liaise with consultant pathologist, Specialty Pathologist, Senior Technologists of other lab sections, nurses and medical staff to maintain the highest professional standards. Participate in training, CME and seminars. Perform analyzer’s quality control, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting & corrective action as trained. Follows the laboratory safety policies and participates in safety education programs. Will retain all necessary registration/license requirements Self-development participate in internal orientation, mandatory, ongoing CME and education programs. Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current knowledge base Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Pathology and Laboratory Department when designated.
